Year 10 Students Explore Careers in Hospitality at The Belfry Hotel

As part of the Birmingham Hospitality Project, a group of enthusiastic Year 10 students embarked on an inspiring careers-focused trip to the prestigious Belfry Hotel. The visit, designed to broaden students’ understanding of the hospitality industry, offered an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most iconic hotels.

During the visit, students were given guided tours across several key departments including golf operations, the luxury spa, leisure facilities, and the hotel’s guest services. Each department showcased the variety of careers available within the hospitality sector, from front-line customer service roles to behind-the-scenes operational positions.

A highlight of the trip was the opportunity for students to meet with senior executives from the Belfry. The professionals shared their career journeys and offered practical advice on pathways into the industry, emphasizing the value of work ethic, customer service skills, and flexibility in this dynamic field.

“This experience really opened my eyes to how many different jobs there are in just one hotel,” said one student. “I didn’t realise how many people it takes to make everything run smoothly.”

The trip is part of a wider initiative to connect classroom learning with real-world career opportunities, encouraging students to start thinking about their future pathways early. The Belfry Hotel, known not only for its luxury accommodations but also for hosting major golf tournaments, provided the perfect backdrop for this eye-opening exploration.

Teachers involved in the project praised the hotel’s commitment to supporting young people and raising awareness of the varied and rewarding careers within hospitality.
