I began my career at Erdington Academy as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with the hope of one day becoming a fully qualified teacher. The confidence that leadership had in me all those years ago provided me the opportunity to move forward in my career. Whilst employed at Erdington, I completed my degree in English Language and Literature with Open University, following which the Academy continued to support me by allowing me to complete my teacher training here at Erdington.
Smith’s Wood is a great place to work. The relationships we develop with our students really allow us to work closely with them and their families so that they can be the best version of themselves, achieving highly when they leave us after their 5-year journey. The opportunities at the Academy and networking across the Trust, promotes collaborative working. The community we create within Smith’s Wood Academy really is a positive environment to enable our students to thrive and gain lasting experiences ready for their next steps, post-16.
I have worked at Bournville School for over 5 years. All the staff are hardworking, friendly, supportive, and welcoming. We are a tight team, and our joint aim is to improve outcomes for all our students. There is an open-door policy whereby you can put forward your ideas to the senior management. I love working with our students to open their minds to the possibilities of what their futures can look like and how they can achieve their goals. Working at Bournville School is very rewarding.
Staff at Fairfax are incredibly supportive and always go the extra mile to assist when you need it. The students at Fairfax are incredible too. The house system in particular makes Fairfax such an enjoyable place to work as it provides healthy competition and something to always get involved in.
